Julian Opie's Australian Birds

  • Artwork
  • Landmark

Julian Opie's Australian Birds comprises more than 20 double-sided LED screens along St Kilda Road featuring animated Australian bird species, including seagulls, pigeons and ibis.

The work was inspired by the artist's father’s stories of growing up in Australia, as well as the artist’s own experiences of spotting native birds on his travels around the country.

Australian Birds was commissioned by the ³Ô¹ÏÍø and the NGV for the NGV Triennial exhibition of contemporary art, design and architecture.
