Specimens Across Time

  • Talk

Hear a special National Science Week public talk and step behind the scenes of the National Herbarium of Victoria.

This year marks 200 years since the birth of Baron Ferdinand von Mueller – global scientific powerhouse, intrepid explorer and founder of what is now the National Herbarium of Victoria at Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria.

To celebrate, Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria experts will share their favourite specimens collected by von Mueller himself, along with the fascinating stories behind them.

Discover how these historic collections – some dating back centuries – continue to inform science today, and learn about the lasting legacy of one of Australia’s most influential botanists.

Whether you’re a nature lover, botany enthusiast, history buff or just curious, this is a rare opportunity to connect with the past and meet the people working to protect it for the future.
