Trades Hall building on Lygon Street, mid-Victorian classical public building with pedimented portico with columns and turrets.
Until 3 Oct

Guided Tour of Trades Hall and the Worker's Museum

  • Free
  • Walking tour

Victoria’s Trades Hall is a national treasure and a symbol of the aspirations of the Australian people. For over 150 years the Trades Hall building has given form to dreams of a better life for working people and their families. It is the birthplace of organised labour in Australia, and the campaign headquarters of the world's first eight-hour day, the campaign against conscription in WWI, the Green Bans of the 1970s, the struggle for equal pay, and the Marriage Equality YES! campaign.

Trades Hall, also known as The Peoples Palace, is one of the oldest purpose-built trades buildings in the world. The Worker's Museum is open to all to walk the halls of history and learn about working people's collective campaigns for justice, told through artefacts and multimedia.

Walk in the footsteps of John Curtin, Zelda D'Aprano, Bob Hawke and other giants of labour history, and be inspired by the stories of the movement.
