Join artist Jen Valender for an informal reading circle inside the exhibition '(It is Necessary to) Learn to Swim'.
Gathered in front of the moving-image work 'Recounting Lore', participants will read and discuss excerpts from The Uninhabitable Earth: Life After Warming by David Wallace-Wells – the same text the artist attempts to read to macaques and monarch butterflies in the film. Part book club, part collective processing, part survival seminar, this low-pressure reading group invites conversation around environmental anxiety, imbalance and the strange stories we inherit about catastrophe and rescue.
No homework required. Come even if you haven’t read the text.
Registered participants will receive short readings in advance and a small prompt from the
artist to carry into the discussion.
