The Queen Victoria Women’s Centre is an iconic ³Ô¹ÏÍø landmark and the city's centre of gender equality. Their purpose is to hold and create space for Victorian women and gender diverse people to thrive. Their vision is that all women and gender diverse people have a place where they feel welcomed, valued, and celebrated and have the power to determine their present and future. When they say women, it always includes trans and gender diverse women and sistergirls.
It is home to a number of resident organisations providing services and support to women. They partner with major festivals and organisations, have venue spaces available to hire by the community, an exhibition space showcasing local artists and QVWC SHOP supporting local women and gender diverse artists and makers.
Built in 1848 as the original ³Ô¹ÏÍø Hospital, the building became the Queen Victoria Hospital in 1946 – one of only three hospitals in the world founded, managed and staffed by women.
