Old ³Ô¹ÏÍø Gaol

Visit Old ³Ô¹ÏÍø Gaol, ³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s oldest and most feared prison since 1845. Now operated by the National Trust discover where some of Australia’s most infamous characters, including bushranger Ned Kelly and gangster Squizzy Taylor, spent time behind bars.

With your Gaol Day Pass, explore the three levels of the original gaol, see the gallows where over 100 people met their fate, and discover Ned Kelly’s death mask. Learn about the Women and Children of the gaol with special displays tracing their history.

Add to your visit with guided tours and immersive experiences. Join the charge sergeant on a tour of the cells at the former City Watch House or hear stories of cunning prison escapes on the Escape Artists Tour. (Tours can be purchased as additional add-ons).

The Old ³Ô¹ÏÍø Gaol is a short walk from ³Ô¹ÏÍø Central Station. Or catch the free City Circle Tram to stop number seven on the corner of La Trobe and Russell Streets.
