Magic Beach

  • Family and kids
  • Film

Classic Australian children’s book Magic Beach by Alison Lester, originally published in 1990, tells a series of delightful and enchanting stories of underwater adventures and mythical monsters, all set by the Australian beach.

Director Robert Connolly (The Dry, Blueback) worked with ten of Australia’s leading animators to transport these stories to the big screen: Susan Danta, Pierce Davison, Jake Duczynski, Emma Kelly, Simon Rippingale, Marieka Walsh, Eddie White, Lee Whitmore, Kathy Sarpi and Oscar nominee Anthony Lucas. These talented artists have produced a colourful anthology of magic and whimsy, using a vast range of animation styles, from traditional 2D animation, to claymation, stop-motion and more.

Visit the ACMI Cinemas for a series of screenings that will feature introductions from the film’s animators, followed by activity book sessions where kids will learn to develop their own forms of animations.
