From Archives to Art: Awakening Cultural Practices

  • Talk
  • Events

Come along for an extraordinary artist talk with Maree Clarke (Yorta Yorta/Wamba Wamba/Mutti Mutti/Boonwurrung), one of Australia's most influential voices in the reclamation and celebration of southeast Aboriginal cultural practices.

Maree works with both traditional and contemporary materials - including glass, 3D printing, and photography - to produce groundbreaking work. From traditional possum skin cloaks and contemporary designs featuring kangaroo teeth necklaces, to river reed necklaces, and string headbands adorned with echidna quills, Maree bridges ancestral knowledge with contemporary expression creating what she calls a 'living archive’.

Presented by Public Record Office Victoria, the archive of the State and Local Government in Victoria, don't miss this unique opportunity to hear Maree share insights into her creative process, her relationship with archives and museums, and how she continues to make Indigenous knowledge visible and accessible to new generations.
