Colourful Coiling Workshop

  • Workshop
  • Activity

In this workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of hand stitching around a core whilst adding various colours and textures (coiling). Coiling is one of the most ancient basketry methods in the world and you’ll learn the basic basket making techniques including how to make a slip knot and then stitch around it to form the centre of a circle, how to use texture, thickness and tension to achieve different results and how to finish off your basket.

Tutor Vicki Fowler’s passion for coiling was ignited almost ten years ago when she attended a weaving workshop hosted by Nancy, a Tjanpi Desert Weaver, at Alice Springs. She has been actively involved in the Basket Makers of Victoria since that time.

All materials will be provided, and this workshop is suitable for all skill levels.
