Coil-woven circles in pink and yellow tones.

Colourful Coiling Workshop

  • Workshop
  • Activity

Coiling is one of the most ancient basketry methods in the world. In this class you’ll learn the basic basket-making techniques, including how to make a slip knot and then stitch around it to form the centre of a circle, how to use texture, thickness and tension to achieve different results, and how to finish off your basket.

The class will be led by Vicki Fowler, whose passion for coiling was ignited almost 10 years ago when she attended a weaving workshop hosted by Nancy, a Tjanpi Desert Weaver, at Alice Springs. She has been actively involved in the Basket Makers of Victoria since that time.

All materials will be provided, and the workshop is suitable for all skill levels.
